Anti-Trafficking in Persons Council

The Belize Government through its Anti-Trafficking in Persons Council and in partnership with civil society, the private sector and the international organization community continues to commit to preventing human trafficking, detecting and disrupting human trafficking offences, protecting vulnerable communities and victims, investigating all potential cases of human trafficking and prosecuting traffickers.

Operations Committee

Goal: A comprehensive and integrated system that offers protection and assistance to victims with full respect for their human rights.

Objectives:

  1. To expand and strengthen the protection and assistance systems for victims.
  2. To formalize and strengthen links with source and transit countries through regional and international mechanisms.

Office of Public Prosecution

Information, Education and Communications Committee:

Goal: Reduce the vulnerabilities and the demand that fosters all forms of trafficking through public education and awareness.

Objectives:

  1. To increase public understanding of the nature and consequences of trafficking through interactive interventions.
  2. To sensitize vulnerable populations and communities to recruitment tactics and how to report suspected cases of trafficking or traffickers.
  3. To train front line personnel on TIPS and CSEC Legislation to identify and report/ refer trafficking victims and traffickers.
  4. To support the Anti-trafficking in persons council initiatives in public education of the ATIP and CSEC legislation.
  5. To educate the public on Labour and Migration Policies linked to trafficking in persons
  6. To fully engage the tourism industry in the efforts against trafficking in persons.

Monitoring and Evaluation Committee

Goal: Knowledge generation and management enhanced 

Objectives:

  1. To Establish (Monitoring and Evaluation Framework)
  2. Consolidate data bank and formalize baseline data
  3. Undertake research
  4. Analyze data and generate periodic reports and Best Practices in TIPS.
