Why do we wear a Blue Heart?

The blue heart is a symbol for raising awareness about human trafficking. Its intended purpose is that it will unify efforts and convey a message of support, empathy, and determination in the fights against this form of modern-day slavery.

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), through its blue heart campaign has been sharing the stories of the survivors of human trafficking in an effort to prevent further cases and raise funds for survivors.

Human Trafficking has a detrimental impact on people and society. Raising awareness of this hideous crime could save lives and support the upliftment of societies.

You might ask, Why a Blue Heart?

The symbol represents three things:

  1. Solidarity with human trafficking victims
  2. The cold-heartedness of traffickers
  3. Through the “UN Blue: colour, the UN’s commitment to combating this crime against human dignity.
